How it runs

Internet or no internet, the exhibit keeps playing.

Every Tellcase screen runs one of two ways. The only real difference is how your updates get to the screen.

Option 1

Connected screen

The screen is on your Wi-Fi or a network cable. Updates show up on their own.

Best for

Most museums, visitor centers, and lobbies with a working network, even a spotty one.

Setting it up

  1. Add a screen in Tellcase and you get a six-digit code.
  2. On the kiosk computer, go to the pairing page and type the code.
  3. The exhibit opens full screen and saves a copy of itself on that computer.

Making a change

Edit from any browser and click Publish. The screen checks in every couple of minutes and picks up the new version by itself. Nobody has to walk to the kiosk.

If the Wi-Fi drops

Visitors won't notice. The screen keeps playing its saved copy and catches up on any changes once the connection is back.

Option 2

Offline package

The screen never touches the internet. Updates arrive on a USB stick.

Best for

Galleries with no network, historic buildings, outdoor shelters, trade show halls, or any spot where IT won't allow a connection.

Setting it up

  1. Click Download offline package in Tellcase. You get one file with the whole exhibit inside, photos and all.
  2. Copy it to the kiosk computer with a USB stick.
  3. Unzip it and open the exhibit. It plays full screen with no internet at all.

Making a change

Edit from any computer that has internet, like the one in your office or at home. Download a fresh package and copy it to the kiosk the same way. It takes a few minutes.

If an update goes wrong

Keep the old package next to the new one. Switching back is just opening the previous copy.

Which one do I need?

Ask one question about the spot where the screen will go.

Can a computer in that spot get online, even part of the time?

YesGo with a connected screen. It's the least work week to week.
No, or IT says noUse an offline package. You trade automatic updates for a quick USB copy.

Not sure? Start either way. The same exhibit works both ways, so you can switch later without rebuilding anything.

Common questions

Does a Tellcase kiosk need internet?

No. A connected screen needs internet once to pair, then keeps playing if the network drops. An offline package needs no internet at all and is updated with a USB stick.

What is the difference between a connected screen and an offline package?

A connected screen is on Wi-Fi or a network cable and picks up your changes by itself within a couple of minutes. An offline package is the whole exhibit in one downloaded file that runs with no internet. You update it by copying a new package to the kiosk.

How do I connect a screen?

Add a screen in Tellcase to get a six-digit pairing code. On the kiosk computer, open the pairing page and type the code. The exhibit opens full screen and saves a copy of itself so it keeps running offline.

What hardware do I need?

A Mac mini or a small Windows PC connected to a touchscreen, in landscape or portrait. Ready-made BrightSign setups are coming soon.

Can one exhibit run on several screens?

Yes. Pair as many screens as you need, mix connected and offline screens, and set each one to landscape or portrait.

What happens when visitors walk away?

After a set time with no touches, the screen returns to its welcome screen so the next visitor starts fresh.

Not sure which fits your space?

Tell us where the screen will go and we'll recommend a setup.
